THE EARLY DAYS
Dan, Yan and Sam met in the outskirts of Bern’s music scene in the late 90ies. After first musical steps in a garage rock band the three boys formed CHOO CHOO in 2006. As a stripped down powerpop three piece they soon played their first string of liveshows. Together with Admiral James T. on the producer knobs they recorded the EP „4 Steaming Hits“ and self released it as a limited 7“ Vinyl Single. That was the early days – CHOO CHOO got re-born for real in spring 2007, when Lili on Keyboards joined the band. She was the missing link – the piece of puzzle that turned the vision of the CHOO CHOO – into; well… a real band.
THE DEBUT
In Fall 2007 CHOO CHOO entered the studio again. Together with Jim Diamond (The White Stripes, The Von Bondies, & Electric Six) the Band recorded their self titled debut album at legendary Ghetto Recorders Studio in Detroit, MI. The album was released in Switzerland in March 2008 and instantly catapulted the young band in to the public spotlight. Switzerland’s biggest radio station DRS 3 nominated CHOO CHOO as one of the 10 hottest newcomers in 2008. Their songs „A little wiser now“ and „Your Heart is breaking down“ entered the daily rotation of several swiss radio stations. By mixing übercatchy melodies with high energy rockappeal their songs put a smile on the faces of Garage Rockers as well as and Indie Poppers. The critics made references to The Hives, the early The Who or the Casears – CHOO CHOO just called it Steam Powered Garage Pop. Following up the release of their debut album the band played 70 shows all over Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, the UK and the USA.
LEAVING THE GARAGE
In fall 2009 – CHOO CHOO started preparing for their 2nd Album. And they had one very clear vision for it: Leave the Garage! They wrote 30 songs and intensely re-worked their trademark bandsound. With Kalle Gustafsson (Jose Gonzalez, The Shout Out Louds, Madrugada, Nina Persson (Cardigans), Mando Diao, Whitest Boy Alive, Division of Laura Lee) they found the perfect producer to put this vision on tape.
In 30 cold days between January 2010 and April 2010, CHOO CHOO recorded their new album „Cannes“ at Svenska Grammofon Studion in Göteborg, Sweden. „Cannes“ features 10 stunninngly beautiful Indie Pop Songs, as multi-faceted, charged with emotions and at the same time cool and unseizable as nothing you’ve heard from CHOO CHOO before.
„It’s a good Thing“ – the first single from „Cannes“ is released in August 2010. The album will be out in January 2011.
